Dan Waddell was brought up in Pudsey, West Yorkshire. He is the son of the cult Geordie darts commentator Sid Waddell, from whom he learned never to let the truth get in the way of a good story. This stood him in good stead for his early career as a tabloid journalist, an experience from which he is now recovering.
He has written 15 works of non-fiction and three novels, the latest under the pseudonym Dan James. His first novel, The Blood Detective, was the UK's bestselling ebook and was nominated for he CWA John Creasey New Blood Dagger, the Macavity Debut Novel award in the USA and the Cezam Prix Littéraire in France. The follow-up, featuring the same central characters, genealogist Nigel Barnes and DCI Grant Foster, titled Blood Atonement, was released in 2009. A third book in the series is planned for release in 2012.
In April 2012 Dan's first pseudonymous novel Unsinkable, linking the Houndsditch Murders, the Siege of Sidney Street and the doomed voyage of the Titanic, was released under the name Dan James. Dan lives in London with his wife and three children. He is currently working on a new historical thriller while trying not to check his Twitter feed every ten minutes.
